J.G. Townsend Jr. & Co. has submitted an application for rezoning for the proposed Gills Neck Village Center. This Village Center will serve as an amenity to the many communities that exist and will be developed in the near future on Gills Neck Road.
Development of this land is part of a vision and concept plan created more than 20 years ago for the Gills Neck Road Corridor, which includes Wolfe Pointe, Wolfe Runne, Breakwater, Cadbury, Hawkseye, Senators, and Governors. We look forward to presenting our rezoning application to both Sussex County Planning and Zoning and to Sussex County Council, and we will continue share information to members of the community to update them on our plans for this exciting project. The master concept of the Gills Neck Road Corridor (including Wolfe Pointe, Wolfe Runne, Breakwater, Cadbury, Hawkseye, Senators, Showfield, Governors, and the Gills Neck Village Center) was developed more than 20 years ago and derives, in part, from the Urban Land Institute’s Creating Walkable Living Spaces.
The goal of the Gills Neck Village Center component is to reduce the use of cars and promote a green, healthy lifestyle for the residents of Gills Neck Road, by providing walkable access to everyday necessities and services, and employment opportunities in our area. There will be close to 2,000 home units in the Gills Neck Road Corridor within the next five years. The Gills Neck Village Center, if approved by Sussex County, will provide basic needs for many residents within a short distance, without leaving the immediate area.
